The Acropolis in Athens

Ancient Greece watches over Athens.

An ancient sanctuary, the Acropolis in Athens has kept a vigil over the Greek city for millennia. In fact, evidence of life dating from the Bronze Age were discovered on the rocky promontory overlooking the city.
Slightly damaged during the Middle Ages and restored from the 19th century on, the Acropolis still houses several relics dating from the classical era. In addition to the Parthenon, it is home to the Erechtheum, the Propylaea and the Temple of Athena Nike. The Acropolis and its monuments were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
